What prompted/inspired you to join this industry? 

My parents owned a car rental business in Toronto, so I grew up in the business. As I got older and was trying to decide what to do with my life, I realized how much I loved our business and enrolled in the Canadian Automotive Institute program in Barrie. The plan was to take over my parents’ business, but due to some health issues, my parents sold the business and are happily retired and I was able to spread my wings and explore more of the industry.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in your career? 

I would say I am most proud of being able to work in so many different facets of this incredible industry! I have worked for a few OEMs in sales and finance, for a tire distributor allowing me to dive into the parts & service side of the industry, to banks and product providers in the business office. It has allowed me to touch so many parts of this business and I have learned so much.

What is the top trend you’re watching in automotive? 

Right now I am fascinated by AI and how that will impact the industry.

What piece of career advice would you have for someone new to the industry? 

Jump in with both feet, take all the opportunity offered to you. This business has so much to offer, the opportunities are incredible. There is nothing limiting in this business, there are so many different avenues to explore, take them all!

What prompted/inspired you to join this industry? 

My move into the automotive industry was the result of careful consideration and planning. After working for several years in finance within a prominent institution and gaining valuable experience leading startups across various sectors, I decided to look for a new opportunity in an industry that was resilient, adaptable, and had the potential for growth. It was then that I came across the automotive sector, specifically in finance & insurance.

What appealed to me most about the automotive industry was its dynamic nature and the multitude of opportunities it offers for professional development. From embracing technological innovations to navigating shifts in consumer preferences and global market trends, there are endless possibilities for growth and advancement.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in your career? 

When asked about my proudest accomplishment so far in the automotive industry career, I would say it has been my ability to swiftly adapt and thrive in a new environment. Despite being relatively new to the industry, I have embraced each challenge with a proactive mindset, leveraging my adaptability as a key strength. One particular achievement stands out: my seamless transition into a role that demanded a quick grasp of industry-specific knowledge and practices. My flexibility has allowed me to contribute fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to my team, fostering collaboration and driving positive outcomes.

What is the top trend you’re watching in automotive? 

One emerging trend that I often use is ride-sharing and how it is challenging consumer attitudes towards vehicle ownership, particularly in central areas. Due to its convenience, some individuals are opting to forgo owning a car altogether or reducing the number of vehicles per household. The automotive industry has been responding to this new shift in many ways; and this new trend is just another example of how quickly the industry can change and adapt to new opportunities presented.

What piece of career advice would you have for someone new to the industry?

As someone relatively new to the automotive industry, my advice to someone starting our would be to stay curious – keep an open mind and approach each day with a willingness to learn. Stay curious about new technologies, market trends, and industry developments. Embrace change and be proactive in seeking out opportunities for professional development, whether through training programs, industry events, or networking with colleagues.
